4. Answer the following questions;
A. A railway embankment is 16 m wide with side slopes 2 to 1. Assume the
ground to be level in the direction transverse to the center line.
Calculate the volume contained in a length of 60 m, the center height at
20 m intervals being in meters: 2.0, 4.5, 2.5, and 1.5. Use the
trapezoidal rule.
E. The concrete producer has an order of 5 tonnes of concrete with w/c of
0.45. In this specific mix design of concrete, it was supposed to use the
45% of saturated and surface dried (SSD) condition of coarse aggregate and
32% of SSD condition of fine aggregate by total weight of concrete. In the
stockpile, the Surface Moisture was 1.1% for coarse aggregate due to the
recent rainfall. Two different sources (source A and B) of fine aggregates
were used in this project. The fine aggregate in the source A was stored
under a roof and thus this fine aggregate was just partially dried. It
showed 0.8% of Effective Absorption. The source B of fine aggregates was
stored outside and thus it had 1.8% of Surface Moisture. The same amount of
SSD fine aggregates from each source was used to prepare the concrete. It is
assumed that there is no admixture in the concrete. Calculate the following
values:
1) How many kilograms of cement is required in order to produce the concrete
described in this question?
2) How many kilograms of water should be added or subtracted from the
original mix of water?
