Engineering Academy, Kaptai, BPDB
Engineering Academy, Kaptai was founded in 1964 by the then East Pakistan
Water & Power Development Authority. The primary aim of the Academy is to
provide professional training and develop skilled personnel for the Water
& Power Development Board.
Following the restructuring of WAPDA into two separate entities — Bangladesh
Power Development Board (BPDB) and Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) —
the Academy has been conducting training programs in a 2:1 ratio for the Power
and Water sectors, respectively. The overall administration of the Academy,
however, remains under BPDB's control.
The Academy is situated in Kaptai, an area renowned for its scenic hills and
tranquil lakes, offering a clean and pollution-free environment. It is located
in Rangamati district, approximately 64 kilometers from Chittagong.
Cox’s Bazar Training Academy, BPDB
Cox’s Bazar Training Academy was established in 2014 under
the
Bangladesh Power Development Board
(BPDB). The Academy is located at Jhilanja, approximately 4 kilometers from
Cox's Bazar sea beach, which is widely
known as the world's longest natural sea beach.
The primary objective of the Academy is to provide professional training to
BPDB personnel to enhance their skills and enable them to perform their duties
effectively and efficiently. In addition to quality training, the Academy
offers a pleasant learning environment due to its scenic location and the
surrounding natural beauty.
Training Academy, BPDB, Chittagong
Training Academy, BPDB, Chittagong was established in 1976
and began its initial activities as RTC, Chittagong at Rahmatganj, M.M. Ali
Road. Later, it operated from Biddyut Bhaban, Chattogram. In December 2014, it
commenced its functions as the Directorate of Chittagong Training Center under
the
Bangladesh Power Development Board
(BPDB).
Located in Chattogram — the commercial
capital of Bangladesh — the Academy holds significant importance due to its
unique geographical position at the meeting point of hills and the sea.
The primary objective of this Training Center is to conduct various training
programs for both technical and non-technical officers and staff to ensure the
continuous development of skilled manpower for BPDB. In alignment with
the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, the Center is being prepared to support
training for supercritical and ultra-supercritical thermal power plants. To
achieve this, a power plant simulator is under planning. In the near future,
the Academy aims to become one of the most modern training centers for mega
power plants in Bangladesh.
Additionally, to meet the growing demand for skilled personnel in distribution
zones, the Center conducts various distribution-related field courses. Regular
Electrical Trade Courses have also been introduced to help bridge the skills
gap in the power sector.
In 2005, the Academy was relocated to its own permanent campus at Khulshi,
near Foy's Lake. The new premises offer
a healthy, pollution-free environment surrounded by scenic lakes, hills, and
natural beauty.
The Training Academy of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), Ghorashal
The Training Academy of
Bangladesh Power Development Board
(BPDB), Ghorashal, is one of the most renowned training centers under BPDB.
Established in 1977, it is situated within the premises of the Ghorashal Power
Station at Palash, Narsingdi, near the well-known Ghorashal Urea Fertilizer
Factory—one of the leading fertilizer plants in Bangladesh.
The Academy is a modern, well-equipped training center specializing in power
generation and general professional development. It features three fully
furnished, air-conditioned hostels for officer trainees, with both hot and
cold water, along with a separate hostel for staff trainees.
In addition to well-equipped Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and
Instrumentation laboratories, the Academy houses a high-capacity power plant
simulator laboratory to provide hands-on technical training. To meet
contemporary demands, the training curriculum also includes topics such as the
brief history of Bangladesh, the Constitution of the People’s Republic of
Bangladesh, the National Integrity Strategy, professional ethics,
anti-corruption measures, ERP, and e-filing systems.
The Training Academy also conducts industrial training programs for students
from various engineering universities. Over the years, it has evolved into a
center of excellence dedicated to developing patriotic, competent, and
professional personnel for the power sector.
The Academy remains committed to achieving its shared vision by fostering
skilled and professional human resources through high-quality training and
development programs. It upholds patriotism, integrity, and ethical standards

maintained campus features landscaped gardens, a scenic pond, and a mango
orchard, creating a pleasant learning environment.
The center organizes training programs on power distribution, office
management and administration, e-GP and e-filing, ERP systems, financial
procedures, and power plant operations. It also offers training opportunities
to participants from other power sector organizations and various
universities. The officers and staff of the academy extend wholehearted
cooperation to trainees throughout their training period.
One of the academy’s key strengths is its practical training opportunities,
supported by its strategic location and access to experienced trainers from
BPDB and other organizations. Established in 1975 as the “Regional Training
Center” (RTC), the institute was founded to enhance the skills, knowledge, and
professional capabilities of BPDB officers and staff. Through comprehensive
training programs, participants gain a deeper understanding of their

has excellent access to skilled engineers and experienced trainers from the
BPDB Head Office. It also provides valuable opportunities for hands-on
demonstrations, including the repair and testing of power and distribution
transformers, as well as the calibration and testing of energy meters at CERS.
Furthermore, trainees can conveniently visit the nearby 80 MW Power Plant and
the 230/132/33 kV high-voltage grid substation to gain practical insight into
ongoing technical operations.
Currently, the Training Academy, BPDB, Tongi is equipped with four
air-conditioned classrooms featuring multimedia projectors and audio systems.
In addition, the center offers residential hostel accommodation, dining
facilities, and a well-stocked library to ensure a comfortable and effective
